Manilva celebrates Carnival on 16th and 17th March


Manilva’s 19th annual Carnival will be held in Sabinillas on 16th and 17th of March. This year’s celebrations, organised by the Culture Department, directed by Councillor Eva Galindo, include a packed programme of activities and entertainment, including new features such as  a Pets’ Carnival and a themed party for teenagers.

The teenage party will be held at the school in Sabinillas and has a Wild West theme including a fancy dress party.

Other activities will centre on the Carnival marquee set up in Sabinillas where the fancy dress competitions will be held, as well as performances by the various chirigota and comparsa music groups over the weekend.


Saturday, March 16

There will be children’s workshops and activities throughout the afternoon.

5 pm: Registration for the children’s fancy dress contest (all registered will have a snack as a gift).

5.30 pm: Children’s entertainment, with games, balloon twisting, face painting, etc …

7 pm: Children’s Fancy Dress Contest (prize draw).

8.30 pm: Performance of the Jessica Quiñones School of Corporal Expression.

10 pm: Performance of the groups “El Director” and “Otra vez para la calle”

11 pm: Registration for the adult Fancy Dress Contest.

11.30 pm: Performance by the groups “Por mis muertos que me quedo con la casa”, “A la vejez viruela” and “los Manolosolos”.

Midnight: Individual and collective AdultsFancy Dress Contest.

2 am: Performance of the musical group “De Ley”.



* Individual: 1st. Prize (€ 200) – 2nd Prize (€ 100) – 3rd. Prize (€ 50)

* Collective: 1st. Prize (€ 400) – 2nd Prize (€ 250) – 3rd. Prize (€ 150)

Sunday, March 17

12 noon: Carnival parade through the streets of Manilva, Sabinillas and Castillo with floats, entertainment and many surprises

4 pm: Children’s entertainment and games in the Carnival marquee, including mini-disco and magic show.

6.30 pm: Children’s costume contest.

7.30 pm: Performance by the carnival groups “Los Narcos” and “Sangre y Arena”.

8.30 pm: Performance by the troupe “El Arrecife”

9.30 pm: Performance by the “Los Manolosolos” chirigota. Directed by José María Palma “Pelu ” with lyrics by Pablo Castillo.

There will be bouncy castles available for free throughout the day. The children’s fancy dress contest will be held on Sunday with the following awards


* Individual: 1st Prize: 1 Tablet 2nd Prize: 1 Bicycle

* Collective: 1st Prize: € 200 (In this category there will be a single prize).
