Love to Sing Choir proudly presents Songs of Stage & Screen, a benefit performance in aid of SOMOS TU OLA for Sarah Almagro on Friday the 8th of November from 7.30 pm at Estepona’s Centro Cultural Padre Manuel.
Following on from last year’s phenomenally successful sell out concert, which included an abridged version of Les Misérables, Love to Sing Choir are busy rehearsing and preparing a bumper selection of songs from the world’s most popular Broadway musicals and Hollywood films, bringing an evening of pure USA musical entertainment right to the heart of Estepona.
The show includes songs from 42nd Street, Jersey Boys, The Greatest Showman, Carousel, Chicago, South Pacific, Avatar, Pearl Harbour, Skyfall, Guys and Dolls, Quest for Camelot, Annie Get Your Gun, The Wiz, Dream Works, French Kiss, San Andreas and many more.
Musically directed by Shirley Helleur, BA LRAM LTCL, an extremely experienced musician with a wealth of expertise, the Manilva based community choir is made up of mixed abilities but all members work with a professional dedication which has allowed them to progress from their very first performances of Christmas Carols (December 2017), to a sold out 1st Anniversary Benefit Concert (October 2018) through to this year’s inaugural Spring Garden Party, supported by professional musicians, at La Duquesa Golf (May 2019). Throughout this journey they have also performed at numerous public and private events along the Costa Del Sol.
Proceeds from the sale of this concert will go towards SOMOS TU OLA to benefit Sarah Almagro Vallejo
Sarah, an excellent student and competing sportswoman picked up the bacterium meningococcus Y. This lethal bacterium caused her sepsis resulting in multi-organ shock putting her on the critical list for 5 days and under an induced coma for 10 days, because of the bacterium’́s attack and the effects of the medication given to her, great damage was caused to her vascular system and her extremities were badly damaged due to the lack of blood circulation. A month later the doctors had to amputate her hands and feet due to a necrosis. Her kidneys aren’t functioning correctly and so Sarah is awaiting a kidney transplant. She is currently undergoing dialysis three times a week.
The choir, by presenting this benefit concert will help raise funds for prosthetics that will allow Sarah to live a normal life and to continue to take part in sports. She dreams of living independently, going to university and participating in sport competitions. Like most young adults she dreams of working and raising a family. Sarah ́s life is currently on ‘’Standby’’ but the choir along with the charity SOMOS TU OLA will assist in getting her life back on track.
Shirley Helleur states, ‘It’s been really inspiring to see the Choir grow from its humble beginnings to now boasting over 50 members. We have members from over a dozen countries including Argentina, Spain, U.S.A, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, New Zealand, Great Britain and Ireland. Regardless of borders and different cultures, the members always work together enthusiastically to create uplifting, spirited performances, which are so enjoyable for audiences and members alike. To be at a stage where we can perform a concert to over 200 people and at the same time help Sarah Almagro really is a great position to be in after only two years from our first ever meeting’.
Tickets are just 10 euros, and are available from the Sabinillas Bookshop, Musisol and Business Centre in Estepona, and the Experience Group in Benavista
