Local lad Spike Parsons part of the victorious Andalucia side at the Inaugural U14 Spanish Rugby Championships


Spike and Adrian ParsonsThe Andalucia Under 14 Rugby Team became the first side to win the inaugural Spanish Championships at Under 14 level.
In a thrilling final against Madrid in Puertollano, Ciudad Real, the boys from Andalucia prevailed winning 12-7 in the final.
Having won their group matches on Saturday against Asturias and Castilla y Leon, Andalucia played a strong Madrid side in the final who had beaten Valencia, Catalonia and Galicia.
The final was a hard tense game of rugby, with Andalucia scoring in the first 5 minutes to go 7 points up, but when Andalucian capitan Alberto Carmona was sin binned for a tip tackle Madrid fought back to make the score 7-7 at half time.
After the interval Andalucia constantly attacked the Madrid line and eventually scored a try in the corner. Andalucia should have gone further ahead but missed some good opportunities and in the end their strong defence stop the Madrid side from scoring anymore points.
Andalucia lifted the trophy winning 12-7.
Local boy Spike Parsons who captains the Club Rugby del Estrecho Under 14’s played in every match and said “It is an amazing experience to be part of this Andalucia team and to become Spanish Champions at the first attempt is unbelievable. We have trained so hard for each other and we all deserve to win the cup for Andalucia. This win gives us a great platform to go on and win more championships in the future. A massive thanks to our coaches Alberto Morena and David Ruani for being incredible.”
