Dubai lift polo’s Cartier Gold Cup at Sotogrande


Cartier Gold Cup SotograndeDubai were the winners of the Cartier Gold Cup, the most important trophy of the 45th INDI International Polo Tournament, beating Ayala Polo 12-7 in the final.

The match played out at Sotogrande’s Santa Maria Polo Club in the presence of Spain’s former monarch, King Juan Carlos I, who was accompanied by the Mayor of San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, and the Junta de Andalucia’s vice president, Manuel Jiménez Barrios, at the prizegiving ceremony.

Dubai had defeated Lechuza Caracas by 12-5 to reach the final, whilst Ayala had done the same to Brunei, winning 13-12 in the last play of the match thanks to a great goal by Nicolás Pieres.

Hundreds of spectators turned out to enjoy the last tournament of the summer at the Santa María Polo Club.
