Did you know that nearly a third of the people living in Estepona are from foreign parts? Some live here permanently and others come and go for shorter periods during the year. Another third are Spanish but live in other parts of Spain and have second homes here. The remaining third are Spanish who live here permanently.

It is important that both thirds living here have a voice in the community. To that end an official organisation was formed and approved by the Junta de Andalucia with registration no. 7182. This is the official Foreign Residents’ Association in Estepona, which is non political and non profit making. It is known as AREME for short.

Every Foreign Resident in Estepona should consider joining the organisation, so that we become a large enough group who can speak with authority to the Town Hall, the police and other important public institutions and organisations on behalf of all foreigners living or working in the Estepona area. The cost of joining AREME is only ONE EURO a year. It is not expensive – so please join us!

Application forms can be obtained from The Tourist Office in the Port of Estepona or by E mail from Ray Oldfield ( or Chris Rawlinson  ( or you can join at any meeting.

Every three months the AREME committee meet with the Councillor for Tourism and Foreign Residents, together with other organisations from Estepona where we can  make representation to the Town Hall about matters of importance to us all. It was through our organisation that the local buses were restored.

AREME also has bi-monthly Forums at The Palacio de Congresos, where specialist speakers inform us about matters of importance to our members. Last month our members had a ‘cook–in’ by Spanish cookery teachers.

AREME usually holds a monthly ‘Table Sale and Coffee Morning’ to raise money for local charities from the rental of the table spaces.  The Mayor has kindly said we can hold them at the Palacio de Congresos, in the foyer.

AREME’s next Coffee Morning and Table Sale will be held at
Estepona Palacio de Congresos in the foyer
Saturday March 29, 2014
from 11.00am to 2.00pm.

There is plenty of parking at the back of the Palacio so no long walks to get to the venue.

Many bargains can be obtained at the Table Sales. You can buy yourself scrumptious homemade cakes, oriental delicacies, bread and the odd pot of jam, marmalade or pickle. You can also buy bargain nearly new second hand clothes, bric-a-brac, home made articles, cards, toys and many other interesting items from around the world.

Please tell all your friends and acquaintances about AREME and about the Coffee Mornings and Table Sales. Come along, have a cup of tea ,coffee or a soft drink; look around the Tables, meet some of the members and see for yourself.

Most importantly JOIN the Association which will be to YOUR advantage in the future. A member of the Committee will be on hand to help you fill in the application form so you can both join/renew and obtain your membership card at the meeting!
