Work begins on Estepona’s new hospital

Estepona HospitalA ceremonial ‘stone-laying’ ceremony was held at the site of the new Estepona hospital today where work has already started on the construction of the High Resolution Hospital.

The works began earlier this month, which involve an investment of 15 million euros by the Estepona town hall. The period of execution of the works is 18 months. The construction of this essential medical infrastructure will be carried out under the supervision and regulatory purposes of the Andalucian Health Service. It is planned that the act of laying the first stone will take place on June 23.

The mayor has referred to the fulfillment of the deadlines and has expressed his satisfaction at the start of the construction of this hospital, which, he recalled, has been the town’s greatest aspiration during the last decade. He has designated this new facility as “a priority infrastructure for the municipality, which will lead to a significant improvement in the quality of services to local residents.”

The Town Council of Estepona and the Andalucian Health Service (SAS) signed the agreement in December 2016 under which, the Council assumes the construction of the hospital centre; As well as the necessary urbanization expenses. On the other hand, the SAS will be responsible for the equipping and start-up of the hospital, as well as the running costs.

High Resolution Hospitals incorporate the concept of Single Act Consultation, aimed at ensuring that all necessary tests and examinations are performed – if possible – in a single act and with the shortest possible time.

The hospital, which will be located in the Santa Maria area, in the westernmost part of the municipality, will have a constructed area of 14,300 square metres on a plot of 60,166 square metres.
