Manilva’s International Fencing Club “AndaluZía”, in collaboration with the Manilva Sports and Cultural departments has organised the V International Fencing Tournament to be held in the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa on February 3.
More than 100 swordsmen from the principal Andalucian provinces and major fencing clubs are expected to take part in categories ranging from U8, U10, U12, U15, adults and veterans.
The competitive tournament will commence at 10 am, whilst from 12 noon visitors will be able to enjoy an exhibition of theatrical fencing paying tribute to old tradition of dueling. The duelists will employ the techniques, dress, and actions revealing the whole tradition and history of Spanish fencing in the perfect setting of the Castle.
There will be exhibitions, workshops and activities for all ages, including face painting and a ‘Mini Zorros’ competition for the youngest kids.
To contribute to the celebration of the Castle’s 250 year anniversary there will be an exhibition of antique objects and pictures of sports and artistic fencing including images from such prestigious photographers as Arturo Umbría, José Mari Moya and José Luis Bollar.
Spectators are welcome to come and watch both the exhibitions and the tournament on Saturday, February 3.
