Saddle Sore Sally receives Estepona Floral Art Club charity donation

Sally and Lesley

Estepona Floral Art Club are proud to announce this year’s annual charitable donation will go towards the fundraising efforts of one their own committee members, Sally Welch, who is aiming to complete a gruelling 400km sponsored cycle ride later this year.  The photograph shows Sally receiving a cheque from Lesley Storey, the outgoing Chairman,

Sally says, “I had a milestone birthday in November and wanted to celebrate this somehow.  I decided to celebrate my good health as some of my pals are not as fortunate as I am.  Because I am a healthy person I chose to challenge myself with a sponsored cycle trip in Cuba this October. I hate bicycles with a passion, always have!  So I have bought a bicycle (named Bella) and have begun a love hate relationship with her.  This is my personal challenge as I have to be fit enough to complete 400kms in five days over all types of terrain. The other part is to raise money for women’s cancers, breast, ovarian and cervical. So far I have managed just over £4,000 (4,800€) by begging, baking and various social nights like horse racing, poker and a barbecue. I do have a just giving page which is – I was over the moon about the donation from Lesley – it was very gratefully received. So yes I’m working hard on my fitness, the results are OK, the human body is an amazing machine when you treat it well – so watching my diet, spinning classes 3 times a week plus interval training, walking and the worst bit, regular long bike rides dressed in Lycra!”  The members of Estepona Floral Art Club wish her all the best in her endeavours.

Established nearly 15 years ago, Estepona Floral Art Club is a very friendly club on the Costa del Sol, Spain, with members and visitors from Nerja to Gibraltar, and is affiliated to NAFAS UK.  Each month the Club hosts a flower arranging demonstration, when spectacular displays are created live on stage.  These are performed by various NAFAS demonstrators flown in especially from the UK.  The Club meets at Tikitano Beach and Restaurant, Estepona, where members and visitors are encouraged to meet for lunch beforehand.  There are also workshops for those who want to learn practical skills, coffee mornings and special events.  Members and visitors are most welcome to attend and do not need any prior knowledge of flowers or flower arranging to enjoy the Club’s events.  Members are of various nationalities but all meetings are in English.
