All is set for this year’s San Juan celebrations in San Luis de Sabinillas, Manilva, on Thursday 23 June. San Juan is the old pagan midsummer celebration which has been ‘Christianified’ by tacking it on to a convenient Saint’s day (if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em sort of thing).
Sabinillas stages one of the biggest and best Noche de San Juan festivals in the South of Spain, with thousands of revellers flocking to the beach for the giant bonfire and fireworks display.
The theme this year is the popular TV cartoon characters.
Music starts at around 10 pm with a DJ providing a playlist to set the mood for the night.
At midnight the bonfire is lit which is followed shortly afterwards by a fireworks display.
Popular music group ‘La Tentation’ then take to the stage for music and dancing into the early hours of the morning.
For pictures of the preparations see the San Juan 2016 album on our Facebook page. Don’t forget to ‘Like’ our page if you haven’t already.
Please Note: A) The car park under the Sabinillas Sports Centre (be the Health Centre) will be open for San Juan.
B) Friday is a local holiday so many banks, offices and some shops will be closed.
