By Marbella Rugby Club’s Dave King
We are nearing the end of the Andalucian league and Marbella Rugby are again in a strong position.
The U18 team recently beat Mairena of Cadiz to qualify for the final of the Andalucian League. They did so by beating their opponents by almost 200 points in the home and away aggregate matches.
They will play Granada for the right to represent Andalucia in the national finals in May.The U18 are the reigning champions of Spain and are keen to defend their crown.
The strength of the team was shown recently when 12 Marbella players started for the Andalucian XV who went on to beat the Catalan XV for the Autonomous Regional Championships of Spain.
On the back of this, seven Of the team will now represent Spain U18 in the European championships in Grenoble this month. A further three players will also represent Spain in the U17 competition.
Easter will be a busy week in the club. Former European cup winners, London Wasps will again run a 3 day academy in the club. This provides local players with further coaching to complement what we currently offer in the club.
Last year, Dave Larham, London Wasps community director was impressed with the level of skill, number of players and facilities that Marbella have. This will see the strengthening of the agreement between MRC and London Wasps.
