San Isidro Labrador, who incidentally is also Madrid’s patron, lived in Madrid during the 12th century when it was but a village, where he worked as a lowly farm labourer. He was always engrossed in prayer but according to legend his workload was taken on by angels so as to leave him time for his devotions, must remember that one!
The Romeria or pilgrimage will be held at the Ermita San Isidro at the Las Pedregales park on Sunday, 7 May, and draws thousands of Esteponeros who go to the park to party and celebrate their patron saint with picnics, barbecues, and a few drinks!
9 am The images of San Isidro and Sta Maria de la Cabeza will be paraded from Estepona’s San Jose Church to the Ermita San Isidro at Los Pedregales park accompanied by worshippers and riders.
11.30 am The procession arrives at the park to the sound of bells, and the members of the “Amigos del Caballo” riding club will present a floral tribute.
12 noon Tradional service in the chapel
1 pm Performance by the Monica Peña dance academy.
2.30 pm Music and dancing to the band Duo Musical.
4.30 pm Children’s Party with clowns, face painting, games, etc.
5.30 pm Magic Show by local magician Juan José Sedeñn.
During the day the Dolmenico de Corominas museum and visitor centre will be open to visitors free of charge from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 6 pm.
