At a recent meeting the Casares Town Hall and the operators of the quarry in the Sierra de la Utrera zone (just behind Manilva Town) have agreed to apportion the funds raised through a previous agreement in which 1.5% of the gross income from the quarry is designated for use by the Casare Town Hall.

A sum of 27,550 euros will be split between two projects: 20% to go on a study of the archaeological sites in the Sierra Utrera, and 80% to completing the multi-purpose installations on floor -9 of the town’s car park building.

The agreement also reduced the overall perimeter of the quarry, protecting the El Duque Cave, El Canuto Gorge, and the Roman Baths area. The quarry operators have also renounced their 30-year extraction concession for Utrera 2, on the opposite side of the gorge.
