Wild boar

An outbreak of trichinosis affecting wild boars and pigs has been detected in the Genal valley area, mainly affecting the municipalities of Gaucin, Benarraba and Casares.

Local authorities are asking residents to take precautions by avoiding sausages or undercooked meat from these animals (to avoid the spread of disease the meat should be cooked for 30 minutes at 77 ° C).

The uncontrolled consumption of this meat can have dire consequences for the consumer’s health.

Instructions have been given for the extreme control of any game from the area to avoid it leaving without going through the security health protocol. Veterinarians are also making visits to verify that the proper protocol is followed.

Trichinosis is a disease that affects pigs who have fed off infected meat which was considered to have been eradicated in Europe, but has recently been detected in game killed on a hunt in Benarraba.
