The 1st Iberian Trophy for Peace Tournament got off to a great start today. After an inauguration ceremony presided over by the acting Mayor José Antonio Ledesma, councillors Juan José Guillén and Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, along with the spokesperson for the PIVG, Jesús Mayoral, Ken Jones, director of the Arsenal Soccer school in Spain (San Roque) and Alan Sefton, director of Arsenal Soccer Schools overseas, and a presentation of commemorative plaques to the team captains, the tournament began.
The tournament is contested by four teams from Portugal, France, Israel and Spain and got underway at 11.00 am with the first match: Galilee United from Israel v Soccer Proacademy from Portugal, which resulted in a 5-0 win to the joint Israeli/Palestinean team.
Next up was the home side CD Costa del Sol (Arsenal's Soccer School in Spain) v IST Touloise from France, which the hosts won 8-1. This bodes well for an exciting finals day tomorrow with CD Costa del Sol fighting it out with Galilee United for the trophy, and the French and Portuguese contesting for third spot. Along with this, there will be the 'man of the match' medals, as well as the 'man of the tournament' award up for grabs. First match tomorrow is at 11.00 am with the grand final at 1.30 pm.
