San Roque Radio Hams

Radio hams from San Roque's Museo CB, made contact with more than 100 enthusiasts, both in Spain and abroad, from a temporary station established on San Roque's Sierra Carbonera from 11 am to 11 pm on Saturday, 8th of September.

The event which was jointly organised by the CB Museum and San Roque Municipal Institute for Fiestas and Youth made contact with radio hams throughout Andalucia as well as northern Spain, Africa, France and Italy.

Thanks to the altitude of Sierra Carbonera (309 metres) many of the contacts were made "in direct" whilst others were made by "bouncing" the signal off the ionosphere which allows for contact with hams worldwide.

All those contacted will receive a certificate commemorating the event as well as an aerial photograph of San Roque.

In a similar event, held last year to celebrate San Roque's Tercentenary, over a thousand contacts were made throughout Spain and Europe in a 24 hour period, and it is hoped to repeat this feat at some stage.
