The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, the body representing the 11 municipalities on the western Malaga seaboard, recently confirmed the compulsory purchase of land adjoining the Guadalmansa water treatment plant to allow for a major expansion project. The four owners of the plots affected have submitted appeals against the decision but these have been rejected on the grounds that the project, under the control of the Junta de Andalucia’s Environment Agency, would be unviable without this land. The regional government’s valuation commission will decide on the compensation to be made to the owners. The works which have a budget of 30 million euros will not only deal with water treatment for the municipalities of Estepona, Manilva and Casares but will also provide recycled water for the area’s golf courses. |
