Estepona will be holding its annual Carnival celebrations on the 20th, 21st and 22nd February.

A presentation, organised by the "Tipo-Tipo" Carnival Association, was held at the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre on Monday, 16th February in which the various local carnival groups were presented as was  Dori Utrera Bermúdez, who will giving the "Pregón" or opening speech.
There is also an exhibition of photographs "An Anthology of Carnival in Estepona" which is on show at the Casa de la Cultura in the Plaza de las Flores from the 16th to the 28th February.

Programme:

Friday, 20th February
5.00 pm Carnival Party and election of the Ninfa and Momo at the Old People's Day Centre.

Saturday, 21st February
12 noon: Children's Party at the El Calvario Park (in the event of bad weather this will be held at the Palacio de Congresos), with children's entertainers and the election of the Young Ninfa and Momo.
1.00 pm La Bacalá - carnival party held at the El Calvario Park and organised by the "Tipo-Tipo" Estepona Carnival Association. Carnival group contest, carnival workshops and activities for both young and old alike and an opportunity to sample the free cod fritters with with every drink.
10.00 pm Grand Carnival Fiesta at the Palacio de Congresos with various performances and contests.
Opening address (pregón) given by Dori Utrera Bermúdez, who along with her family are great supporters of the Estepona Carnival and who work hard each year towards its success.
Performance by various carnival groups (comparsas and chirigotas) from across the region.
Performance by the Estepona Chirigota "Feriantes del Caribe".
Election of the Ninfa and Momo with a prize of 200€ each.

Sunday, 22nd February
12 noon Carnival Sunday. Free “Papas Aliñás” (a potato, fish and onion salad). Chirigota and carnival group contest at the Plaza Antonio Guerrero, presented byt eh "Los Maniseros" cultural association.
5.00 pm Grand Carnival Cavalcade. Sets off from the Agricultural Cooperative in Calle Terraza and follows the route: Cooperativa Agrícola, C/ Terraza, C/ Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, C/ Calvario, C/ Ebro, C/ Tajo, C/ Pilar de Farinós, Avda. Juan Carlos I, C/Africa,Avda. San Lorenzo (lado H. Altamarina) , C/ Real, C/ Terraza and Cooperativa Agrícola after which the action moves to the La Rada beach, just in front of the Edificio Iberia where the "Sardine Funeral" will take place followed by fireworks. There will also be awards for the best individual fancy dress and the best group from the Cavalcade.
