Actress Kristanna Loken received a Golden Unicorn award at last night's opening of the 9th Estepona International Week of Horror and Fantasy Cinema.

The award was presented for her achievements in such films as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Bloodrayne, and In the Name of the King, the latter of which was screened last night.

This year’s IX Semana Internacional de Cine Fantastico y de Terror de Estepona Fantasy and Horror Film Festival will be held from Monday, 1st to Saturday, 6th September.

Now in its ninth year this prestigious festival brings together the top names in this genre of the film industry to show off their latest works, some of which have their international premieres at the festival. Last year awards were presented to actors Christopher Lee and Michael Pare, as well as to directors and writers such as Stuart Gordon and Uwe Boll.
The Festival has a number of different activities including nightly screenings of films in their original language, a cinema shorts competition, exhibitions and lectures, which are broken down into a number of sections: Awards Section; Official Section; Days of the Full Moon; Commemorative Publications; and Parrallel Activities. The Festival also has a different theme each year, with ‘The Myth of the Mummy” being this year’s. Another new feature for the IX edition of the festival is an award for the best Television ScFi series which will be awarded to the highly popular ‘Heroes’.

The Eroski Group plan to open a supermarket in the Casares Costa area. The group plan to build the store just off the MA-546 road just in front of the Casares del Sol urbanisation, which will provide a much needed local shopping facility for this area of the municipality.

The Councillor for Tourism, Sports and Beaches, Carlos Rodriguez Navarro, would like to invite everybody to the Estepona ‘Día del Turista’.
This will be held on Saturday, 23rd August in Estepona Port, starting at around 9.00 pm.
Amongst the attractions will be music and dancing along with grilled sardines, beer and sangria served free of charge.
During the evening there will also be a ceremony to present awards to a number of businesses who have made important contributions to Estepona’s tourist industry.

Estepona fans celebrate victory and promotion

After an anxious couple of month’s waiting, Estepona’s football fans can finally enjoy the celebration of their team’s promotion to national league football after an absense of 14 years.

A large fire razed 15 hectares of  land on the outskirts of Casares town on the first day of August requiring a large force of firefighters to bring it under control.
