San Roque Romeria

San Roque celebrates its Patron Saint with an annual romeria (pilgimage) to the Pinar del Rey woodland behind San Roque.

This year the Romeria is on the weekend of Saturday 26th and Sunday, 27th April.

The event begins on Saturday afternoon when the procession leaves leaves San Roque for Pinar del Rey, along Calle Ermita, Los Sargentos, Avenida del Ejercito, Calles Nueva, El Ejido, La Cruz, Cayo Antonio Prieto.

During the procession the statue of the Patron San Roque is accompanied by riders of the Asociacion Cultural Amigos del Caballo "La Polaina".

On the Sunday, after a sacred mass at 1 pm, there is usually a number of equestrian events held at the entrance to the Pinar del Rey's recreation area. Thousands of people flock to the fiesta in the Pinar del Rey woods to celebrate the town’s patron.

By early evening it is time for the Saint to return in procession by Carretera del Pina, Camino de Pasahonda, Camino del Almendral, Avenida del Ejercito, los Sargentos and finally La Ermita (chapel).
