More than 1000 runners compete in Estepona 10k road race

The II Estepona 10k Urban Roadrace, which took place on Sunday 22 April saw a competitive field of over 1000 adult runners and a further 600 in the youngsters’ category.

The winner in the men’s category was San Pedro athlete, Javier Diaz Carretero, Spanish marathon and half-marathon champion.

Second place went to the Hispano-German runner, Bodo Kieckbusch, with third place going to Cristian Benitez from Marbella.

In the women’s race first place went to Ilona Marhele, with Natalia Fisher and Rocío Sibajas taking second and third respectively.

Besides the sporting benefit this year’s event also raised funds for a project to vaccinate against polio in children, sponsored by Rotary International.
