U14 – Marbella 7 Vs 5 C.R.A. Portuense

On a blustery day at Bahia Marbella & with a pitch caked in mud from the overnight rain, the visiting side had conditions that suited their forward pack. It was a tough day for the home side who struggled against the might of their opposition. After defending for most of the first half and with a try disallowed for Puerto due to a last minute tackle from Mario Caceres who managed to push the Puerto player’s legs into touch the teams went into the break at 0-0.

The second half proved to be a continuation of the first and this time Puerto managed to push over the try line and get the first points on the board however with the wind against them they weren’t able to score the conversion (5-0). Marbella finally realised that they needed to add some passion to the match and retain possession to get into the opposition half, which they did. Puerto defended well but they were to give away a penalty try after continued penalties for not allowing Marbella the quick tap penalties. With an easy conversion in front of the posts and with the wind at his back Miguel Goizueta took the conversion. (7-5). In the last minute of the match Puerto were awarded a penalty which they were unable to convert to end with a score of 7-5. Heartbreaking for the opposition who were actually the better team on the day and elation for Marbella who will have to improve if they want to win the Andalucia league.

This match also proved to be a challenge to the home side and the first half was hard fought and ended with a yellow card for Mateo Caceres for his illegal tip tackle on an opposition player and a 0-0 scoreline at half time.

The second half saw a Marbella side who were more determined and had obviously been read the riot act at half time. They managed to get into the Puerto half and were awarded a penalty almost in front of the posts which was converted by Ben King (3-0). Puerto fought back hard and scored a try in the corner after a driving maul from a line out. They were unable to convert this and the score was 3-5. Marbella continued to fight hard and were finally awarded a try after a piece of individual brilliance from Andres Masuyama when he chipped the ball into the corner, collected and scored although it was not converted. Shortly afterwards another penalty kick was taken by Ben King to go to 11-5 ahead and in the dying minutes Mateo Caceres dived over in the corner to make up for his card and Ben King converted the difficult conversion to end the match 18-5.
