Marbella versus Jaen

Senior – Jaen 27 Vs 41 Marbella

This match was the one that Marbella had set their eyes on to win after 2 matches played in the league with 2 losses to their name. The game started tentatively with both sides playing well defensively & eyeing each other up. After 20 minutes the scores were still to nil until Jaen managed to break the gain line & score under the posts. Luckily for Marbella the kicker sliced the kick which kept the score 5-0. Towards the end of the first half & after a significant amount of time in the opposition 22 Jaen were given a yellow card for bringing Ove down in the line out to prevent the maul. With quick ball Marbella were almost over the try line when Jaen were given another yellow card, this time for a high tackle on Javier which gave the referee no option but to award a penalty try. Daniel Camarero slotted the conversion & later a penalty to take Marbella into the break with a lead of 5 – 10.

At the beginning of the second half Marbella had the advantage of 2 extra men which created numbers in the line meaning Gianluca could run in a 25 metre try with a conversion by Javier & then a forwards try from Juan (player of the month, October) with a conversion by Daniel. Jaen then came back after Marbella received a yellow card for a dangerous tackle by Leo Lopez & then a yellow card for Enrique for a deliberate knock on just in front of the Jaen try line & they ran in 3 quick tries & were also awarded a penalty. This was then equalled out with a penalty for Marbella taken by Daniel to take the scores to an even 27 – 27.

Leo Lopez returned from his sin binning ready to make amends & by way of an apology to his team mates blasted through the opposition pack to score a try, converted by Daniel. Marbella then seemed to find an energy & determination that Jaen just didn’t have in the closing minutes to get the ball quickly through the backs to give Daniel a man of the match winning score at the death. Final score 27 – 41.

U14s Day of Rugby

Marbella Rugby Club hosted a day of rugby for the U14 age group which started at 10.00hs & continued throughout the day until 17.00hs when everyone had been fed but were both exhausted & elated at the same time having spent a wonderful day full of rugby spirit, camaraderie & competition. Teams travelled from Gibraltar, Del Estrecho, Nerja, Jaen, Granada, Jerez, Sevilla & Puerto Santa Maria to join Marbella in 20 minute matches where everyone was able to play each other. Marbella had 2 teams play on the day which were created by splitting the squad evenly into 2 equal teams rather than create an A & B team. This way the newer players had a chance to get involved more & learn from their more experienced squad members.

U16 – Jaen 0 Vs 115 Marbella

The U16s made the most of the Senior bus journey to Jaen by hopping on board to play a friendly against the newly formed Jaen U16s. Marbella were far too strong for this inexperienced team & sadly the home team were unable to get any points on the scoreboard but Marbella were able to test out some set moves, combinations in the back line & blood some of our younger, newer or less experienced players.
