Local Police have arrested a 33-year-old local resident, on suspicion of several robberies in recent days in different parts of the municipality.
The detainee is accused of having carried out several robberies in various bars and restaurants in the area along with a number of aborted attempts, the most notable being the alleged robbery in the Santa Ana Church, where besides removing the collection of candles and various ornaments with more sentimental and religious value than economic, he damaged various furnishings and fittings.
On May 29 the local police arrested the man inside a bar in Manilva which he had broken into. Following this arrest, the individual was taken into custody and was later released.
The next morning he was found trying to break into a bar in El Castillo, managing only to break down the door of the establishment before fleeing from the police. That same day in collaboration with Guardia Civil officers, they once again detained the suspect inside a restaurant in El Castillo. At the time of the arrest the accused was carrying a backpack inside which several items were found which may have been used to commit the robberies, an axe, a car jack and a knife, and other items reported missing in previous robberies, such as alcohol and a clock along with some keys with the words ‘vestry’ and ‘Office Sabinillas’ attached, which have been identified by the local pastor of the church as belonging to them.
The suspect was taken to court and due to the re-offending and social alarm he has created in the last few days in the town, the judge ordered him to be detained.
