Javier Infantes Mural in Estepona

Estepona’s buildings continue to provide the ‘canvas’ for art, with an apartment block in Calle Guadiaro hosting the eighteenth mural to adorn the town.

Entitled ‘Blue and Sea: Liquid Emotions’ this piece is the work of Estepona artist, Javier Infantes, and references the sea, water, horizons, the sky, and sunlight in its execution, the image being built up from multiple wooden panels and using various mediums including resins, acrylics, dyes and fine glitters, resulting in what the artist describes as ‘a portrayal of the memory of an emotion produced by a distant longing for open skies and blue seas of Estepona and the Mediterranean’, a ‘homesickness’ due to the artist having lived in New York since 2007.

“These creative murals, place Estepona alongside other European cities at the forefront of outdoor art, creating a cultural heritage and rejuvenating neighbourhoods, which for years have been neglected”, so said Estepona’s Mayor, José María García Urbano.

These murals are just part of the cultural infrastructure being developed in the town, with the ‘Poetry Route’ featuring ceramic panels portraying classic poems from international literature; as well as the installation of statues and sculptures in the towns streets and plazas.
