Estepona celebrates the May spring festival on Sunday 1 May with its annual Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses) competition which sees local residents and religious brotherhoods decorating their neighbourhood with crosses, spring flowers, etc.
The ‘Crosses’ are visited by a panel of judges, and various prizes awarded, and they make a great spectacle for visitors and locals alike.
This year ‘Crosses’ can be found in Estepona’s historic old town in: Plaza Pozo Prado, Plaza Begines, El Paseíllo, Calle Salvador Dalí (next to the orchid house), Plaza Juan Bazán, Plaza del Rocío, Calle Veracruz, and Pasaje Doña Francisca Contreras.
The crosses are at their best from 12 noon, and there is often music and dancing to add to the atmosphere.
