Carnival in ManilvaThis weekend Manilva celebrates Carnival. Organized by the culture department, headed by Councillor Eva Galindo, with many new features introduced for this edition.

The activities will take place in the Plaza de los Maestros on the Promenade near the school in Sabinillas, where a marquee will be installed that will be the venue for the different activities and events. There will also be various children’s attractions at the La Colonia end of the village for the youngsters to enjoy.

On Saturday March 11 the local carnival begins with the cavalcade in Manilva’s three population centres. Starting in Manilva at four in the afternoon, followed an hour later in Castillo and finishing in Sabinillas from 5:30 in the afternoon.

From 4.30 onwards in the marquee, entries will be accepted for the children’s costume contest. All children enrolled will receive refreshments.

At 6 pm the children’s entertainment will begin, with games, balloon modelling, face painting and a performance by the Jessica Quiñones school of corporal expression. At seven in the afternoon there will be the fancy dress grand prize draw.

At 8.30 pm revellers can enjoy performances by chirigotas and comparsas music groups with the local group Cantazinfundos “La chirigota del Pelu” along with the chirigotas “Que vienen los niños” and “Este año tengo mono de carnaval”, both from La Linea and from this same town the comparsa “La Fortaleza”.

At 11 pm the entry for the adult costume contest will open, with the judging starting at midnight.

Three prizes of € 150, € 100 and € 50 will presented for the three best individual costumes and another three € 350, € 200 and € 100 for group entries.

The party will continue from one in the morning with music by a DJ.

The activities prepared for Sunday 12 March are in support of the three local Ampas (Parent Teacher Associations.

The carnival party will start in the Plaza Vicente Espinel de Sabinillas from eleven in the morning. The youngsters that register in the parade will receive a bracelet with which they will be able to enjoy inflatable castles and various workshops and activities throughout the day.

All proceeds will be used for the purchase of material in local schools. The AMPAS members will pay € 1, while non-members will pay € 3.

The parade with all the participants will begin at around 12.30 pm and the party will continue in the marquee at the Plaza de los Maestros with musical entertainment, children’s games and attractions during the whole day.

At 4 pm the children’s fancy dress contest will start. There is a second prize of a tablet and a first prize of a mobile, for the two best individual costumes and a single prize of a ticket to the water park plus food, for the group category.

At 5 pm the afternoon La Mancha chirigota “Los Catazinfundos” will put the finishing touch to the Manilva carnival.
